Thor: The dark world
In recent years the Marvel franchise and super hero based films have become more and more popular with adults who were child hood fans and kids who are still coming into the idea of comics and superheroes.
But as the franchises grew bigger they gained bigger budgets allowing them to create bigger projects, starting with a very unrealistic and badly done 70's spiderman TV show has now become a $1.200.000.000 budget project that spans over 6 movies and 10 years of work.
Marvel having had companies such as Disney, Fox and Sony create these films has been a big push from the early years, people were skeptical about the cross media convergence but in the end it paid of well and they have made some fun and enjoyable movies that show no sign of stopping and have films rolled out all the way to the year 2021.
Thor two is the second in marvels phase 2 movies. The budget is TBD but most marvel films have a budget between $150.000 and $250.000 and so far has raised $109.400.000 and is more popular in Europe than in the states, an attraction being that part of the movie i set in Greenwhich.
The movie was directed by Alan Taylor and produced by Kevin Feige who has produced or executively produced every Marvel movie to date.
Thor 2 premiered on the 22nd of October 2013 at the Odeon at Leicester square and was released internationally on the 30th of October 2013.
I saw the film on Friday and thought it was incredibly done, the CGI and amazing effects and sets are outstanding and reflect how far the franchise has come. The response in the cinema from the audience was perfect, contrasting between the tense and more serious scenes and the comedic scenes. The cast are all so well suited for their parts that they feel like the real characters.
Chris Hemsworth (Thor) has evolved into the character and genuinely seems proud to play the part, but it was Tom Hiddleston (Loki) that stole the film, every time he appeared on screen his overwhelming acting is so thorough that you cant help but love him even though he was and is a main antagonist of Thor and Avengers Assemble.. As well as giving another popular British star Idris Alba (Heimdell) a larger part in this movie than the last Probably because they're British and British actors can sell drama better than anyone.
If you are interested in seeing the film you can see it being advertised all over the place on billboards, buses, posters, on youtube, facebook, the comic con footage, looking at the cinema for times and more.

One Missed call swede review
Yesterday
I wen to an advanced screening of the swede, it was a night were amateur film
makers came together to show what they were made of and in this case I was
quite impressed; for such low budget film “the one missed call swede” came
across very well I was a fun, enjoyable parody of a famous Japanese horror
film. The acting all though sometimes a little off and the editing a little bad
at some points it would be easy to discard this film as another cop off parody
a failed attempt at something good and entertaining. What I loved was the films
heart it made not be the best but their passion from interviews and the film
itself sold it to me completely. The swede comes out next week at all theatres I
recommend you go and see ASAP before tickets run out! Rotten tomatoes gave it
89% tonight I’m giving it a Dave rating of **** (4 stars). Thanks for reading
and keep subscribing to Dave weekly for more film, swede and TV news, update
and reviews.

What was it like playing the character of
Beth Raymond?
Tarjae: It was fun. I really
enjoyed it. I loved working with the other characters we had a blast on the
set.
What was it
like working on a small budget?
Olli: it made the experience
more exciting! We used our imagination more. It was hard to play some of the
scenes as we didn’t always have all the correct props but we made it work.
Working with a
tight budget, did this effect your costuming?
Faiza: Yes, we couldn’t
remake the movie to its full potential; as we couldn’t buy anything we had to
design out our costumes.
If you could
remake any other film of your choice what would it be?
Aneeka: I would love to
remake big mama’s house it would be such a laugh, yes most definitely.
What was it
like working with Olli?
Tarjae: it was so much fun, every
morning he would steal my New York bagels from the cupboard and then act so
oblivious when I asked about them. He was a blast it would be fun working with
him again.

Production
there are different stages of production:
PRE PRODUCTION: this is the stage before making the actual film, this includes the planning. planning is making the synopsis of the film and having a ruff idea of what the films about. you then make a storyboard which shows the clips and main events of the film. then you start getting cast together and the locations that would be Efor each of the scenes and also the props.
PRODUCTION: this is the literal making of the film everything being planned being put into one. locations that were allocated now being filmed. some scenes can be filmed a numerous amount of times until the director films the 'take' is good enough to use.
POST PRODUCTION: This is when the film is given to the editor. The editor takes out all the takes to start off with and then does the more difficult editing.
Distribution
the distributor goes many routes to distribute the film. They also spend incredible amounts on getting it to the cinema and other places the movie is shown. the distributor issues the movie to the cinemas. they set the release dates and when the film will be shown.
Marketing
There are many ways of publishing the films(buses, billboards, television) advertising the film depends on who the audience is. If the film is for a child you may want to advertise it where children are likely to be. like in Mc donalds where there are happy meals. Distributing toys of the characters will make them remember the characters and encourage them to see the film.
Exhibition
Cinemas fall into 1 of 2 categories: national chains; and independent exhibitors. The specific programming will depend on the target audience. audience engage with films for many different reasons like because of the actresses or because of the story line.

Theatrical launch - film released
No Theatrical - aeroplanes, hotels, coaches.
Pay/ Subscription - Pay per view, Sky, Video on demand
Free for air - on the televison

Homework
Production
Pre-Production
This is the stage in which all the planning for the project takes place. During pre-production, the production is broken down into individual scenes and all the locations, props, cast members, costumes and special effects are identified. The script is written at this stage. A detailed schedule is produced and arrangements are made for the necessary elements or people to be available to the film-makers at the appropriate times.
PRODUCTION
This is the stage at which all the filming is carried out. All scenes planned out in pre-production are filmed at the relevant locations. Each scene is filmed as many times as the director needs to ensure the best quality scenes will be used to make the film. This is wherethe pre-production work is put to the test. Great care must be taken to make sure that all the filming is done correctly and all necessary shots are takenas it is sometimes difficult or impossible to go back and repeat certain events if the filming is incomplete when it comes to the post-production stage.
Post-Prouction
This is the stage in which the film is put together and refibed by the editor. The first job of the film editor is to build a rough cut taken from sequences (or scenes) based on individual takes (shots). The purpose of the rough cut is to select and order the best shots. The next step is to create a fine cut by getting all the shots to flow smoothly in a seamless story. Trimming - the process of shortening scenes by a few minutes, seconds, or even frames - is done during this phase. As well as the editing of footage, all music, graphics, menus etc are added in this stage. it is then moved to a final cut after the fine cut has been screened and approved by the director and producer.
Distribution
Films go from the edit house to the audience by: digital cinema projector (DCP), shipped 30mm projector,
DVD, online, TV.
Distributors may choose one weekend over another to line it up with a certain event or release of other franchise merchandise or it could just be on a bank holiday or a special event i.e xmas, easter, valentines day, etc.
Marketing
Some examples of marketing are advertising in magazines, adverts, trailers, billboards, internet, social media sites, merchandise, word of mouth, etc
The type of audience that see the film all depends on the type of marketing you use, for example middle aged people in london will see a lot of billboards and buses for films that they would see as appose to them being on the internet because a middle aged person is less likely to be "surfing the web".
EXHIBITION
In films these days there seems to be an obsession with making an emotional attachment to a character than actually making a stand out film. Because they make more money from merchandise that way. But what makes a great film is an engaging one, a film that gets the audience involved by making them question the meaning in the context of the film rather than just sitting there and staring at a screen
The Film Value Chain
Value-chain analysis looks at every step a business goes through, from raw materials to the eventual end-user. The goal is to deliver maximum value for the least possible total cost.-http://www.investopedia.com/terms/v/valuechain.asp
Production
The production of a film is very important this is where the storyboard, props, treatment and paperwork is produced also paperwork on where you will recording etc., this is where idea's are pitched and finalized, an example of this is like when they were going to film 'The Woman In Black' this was planned to be shot in 3D but it was later decided not to be done. The production is also where the film is created, crew will be recruited such as sound editors, assistant directors, photographer and the script supervisor etc. After all the the film has been produced and all the final recording is done, this is where the editing comes in to process the sound effects transitions between scenes all the editing down to a T is down during the production.
Distribution
The distribution is the process of where the movie is available to watch this is finalized by the film instructor, this can either be done by a cinema release or a home entertainment such as DVD, Blu-Ray etc. There are many types of releases such as the Standard release this is where the movie is released in the cinema 1st and then later released as a DVD, Blu-Ray or Internet etc. On the other hand there is the Simultaneous release which very rarely takes place but this is where the movie is released to the audience in every form; cinema, DVD, Blu-Ray and Internet etc. Overall the distribution is when the film is released to an audience.
Marketing
Marketing is very important this is when the film is advertised to the audience early in the release cycle, film companies put a lot of finance into this part as this is what attracts people to come view the film in cinema or purchase to have as home entertainment. Publicity of the film is usually handled by the distributors and exhibitors.
There are many forms of marketing such as:
Billboards
Radio
Film Trailers
T.V
Newspapers
Internet etc.
However how the company markets the film does effect the audience for example if u advertise a film mainly through Internet it will attract the eyes of teenagers/young adults as they spend majority of the time online. However if you advertise a movie on a kids channel this will promote it to children and make it more appealable for them as is advertised on a child friendly show.
Exhibition
This is where the film is able for audience's to view/buy. The way the film could be shown is in many various ways such as cinema, internet, DVD, blu-ray and also on T.V. However is has been shown how majority viewing on films are at home, only a small 4% is cinema viewings. The most popular day for teenagers/young adults to attend cinema is on a saturday the reason I believe this is because saturday is the weekend for most of us and this is a way to relax. 14% of people who viewed a film at the cinema then went to buy at the retail.
FILM VALUE CHAIN:
- Theatrical Launch: At the cinemas
- Non Theatrical license: Aeroplanes, Hotels etc.
- Home entertainment: Films for release on digital media such as DVD & Blu-Ray
- Pay/Subscription TV: Sky, Virgin Media etc.
- Free to air TV: Repeated shown on TV
- Licensed Merchandising: Use brand of their products
